Standards and Regulation in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka ranks 102 out of 183 on the World Banks ease of doing business index although it ranks in third place out of eight South Asian countries (2011). It ranks fairly highly (34 out of 183) in terms of starting a new business. Principal regulators in Sri Lanka include the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka, the Civil Aviation Authority and the Fair Trading Commission. The Sri Lanka Standards Institution, in accordance with the 1984 Sri Lanka Standards Institution Act, is the coordinating bureau for standards in the country. Sri Lanka is also a member of the International Standards Organisation.
