There are numerous national agencies in Sri Lanka operating across a wide range of areas. In Sri Lanka national agencies are organisations that have a mandate backed by an Act of Parliament, they are usually referred to as Government Agencies. They include the Coast Conservation Department, tasked to develop and manage Sri Lanka’s coastal environment; the National Child Protection Authority, whose work includes advising government on policy regarding the prevention of child abuse and creating awareness of children’s rights; and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, who aim to develop Sri Lanka’s commercial port system to provide internationally competitive services.
