Self-drive car hire is widely available from cities throughout the country from local and international agencies. Chauffeur driven services are also available in major cities. Taxi services and rickshaws are available for shorter journeys in urban areas.

Buses and coaches connect major cities and some international tourist companies offer coach holidays in Sri Lanka.

Rail networks connect major cities and tourist centres. Fast rail services operate on principal routes.
