Find Forestry expertise in St Kitts and Nevis

Forestry, together with agriculture and fisheries, contributes 2% of St Kitts and Nevis’ GDP (2008). In 2005 there were 5000 hectares of forest on St Kitts and Nevis, which comprised 15% of total land area. When the two islands are considered individually, 30% of St Kitts is forested and 15% of Nevis. Forests are mainly tropical rainforest and tropical moist deciduous forest, and are concentrated in the mountainous interiors of both islands. St Kitts and Nevis does not have an established commercial forest sector as the islands do not produce woodfuel or roundwood on an industrial scale. The country does not have a problem with deforestation, and considerable areas of land previously cleared for sugar cane farming are regenerating into secondary forest.
