Education NGOs and CSOs in St Kitts and Nevis

There are a small number of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society organisations (CSOs) working in St Kitts and Nevis’ education sector. Each island has its own representative body for teachers, which are both members of the Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) and participate in its organised activities, such as the Track and Field Championships which bring together students and teachers of the Caribbean. The Nevis Teachers’ Union was inaugurated in 1989 and now has a membership approaching 150. It functions to represent its members in relation to wages, working conditions and benefits. The St Kitts Teachers’ Union (SKTU) aims to be a truly professional organisation working through education and advocacy. Initiatives of the SKTU include the offering of educational scholarships to children whose parents are union members.
