Tonga has non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society organisations (CSOs) involved in many different sectors including the health, education, and gender developmental sectors. Non-Governmental Organisations operate under the Tonga Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (TANGO). NGOs operating in Tonga include the Tonga Family Planning Association, the Tonga National Youth Congress, and Langafonua ‘a e Fefine Tonga. Langafonua ‘a e Fefine Tonga was established in 1956 as an independent NGO, more recently it has become the national umbrella for women’s organisations in Tonga (2011).
