Research Institutes in Tonga

There are no independent research institutes of note based in Tonga; the research is mainly linked to two universities operating there. The University of the South Pacific (USP) set up the Research Cluster Project in 2010 with the aim to build on their inter-disciplinary research and align research projects with their member countries’ priorities. These clusters are monitored by the Research Cluster Project Implementation Group (RGPIG). The six clusters are Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, Economic Growth, Trade and Integration, Governance and Public Sector Management, Human Security, Pacific Cultures and Societies and Pacific Oceans and Fisheries Management. Atenisi University also has a research and creative works project.
