Visitors will require a current passport and visa. Visas can be issued upon arrival and allow stays of up to 31 days. Visitors needing a visa will require return tickets, funds for their stay and health certificates. Certificates include yellow fever and cholera if visitors are from an infected area (2011). The Tongan Government provides comprehensive medical and dental facilities for visitors and only a token fee is required for medicines (2011). It is also important for travellers to be aware of local customs as visitors are expected to respect the religious beliefs of the residents and although casual clothing is acceptable here it is illegal not to wear a shirt in public.
