Transport in Uganda

Several international airlines run regular services into Entebbe International Airport. Scheduled bus services operate between Entebbe and Kampala with a journey time of one hour as well as to and from the airport. The roads radiate from Kampala, although the network is sparse in the north. An extensive network of minibuses, known as matatus, run to most parts of the country and they are a quick and convenient form of transport. There are also taxis which take passengers to wherever they want to go but are more expensive than matatus. Local boat services link Entebbe to the Ssese Islands. Car hire companies are based near Entebbe International Airport and in the centre of Kampala. Foreign drivers require an International Driving Permit, adequate third-party insurance, vehicle log books and must pay for a temporary road licence.
