Regional & Local Government
The United Kingdom is made up of four countries, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. All, except for England which is both governed and legislated directly by the UK parliament, enjoy some level of self-government through devolved legislature and/or executive. The countries are divided into island areas, counties and metropolitan areas which are made up of districts and metropolitan boroughs. Administrative structures at each of these levels vary distinctly right throughout the UK. The capital of the UK is London.
