Find Forestry expertise in Vanuatu

Forestry, together with agriculture and fisheries, contribute 21% of Vanuatu’s GDP (2009). The forestry sector is limited due to difficulty of access and limited infrastructure despite forest covering 36% of Vanuatu’s total land area (2008) with soils and climate conducive to timber production. The Department of Forestry is responsible for finding investors to develop large, commercial timber plantations but such investment is restricted by the natural constraints and size of Vanuatu’s islands. In addition, the Department of Forestry is dedicated to sustainable growth, ensuring the rate of forest regeneration matches the rate of commercial felling and clearing.
