Essentials in Vanuatu

While Bislama (pidgin English) is the first language of most people in urban areas, French and English are also official languages of Vanuatu and widely spoken. In addition there are over 100 native languages still spoken on the islands. Within urban areas, drinking water is safe and malaria vaccinations are not required. For visitors travelling outside of Efaté, anti-malarial medication is recommended. For visitors staying less than 30 days, who are nationals of the Commonwealth, EU, Fiji, Japan, Norway, the Philippines, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA, no visa is required but you must have a return ticket and a passport valid for six months beyond your stay.
