Zambia is a net importer of goods and services. Net imports accounted for 2% of GDP in 2005. The main exports are copper and cobalt (earning some US$4.6 billion in 2007), tobacco, flowers, food, live animals and cotton; and the main imports are machinery, transport equipment, petroleum products, chemicals and foodstuffs. The average ad valorem tariff for imported goods is 14% (2007). The Export Board of Zambia and the Zambia Export Growers Association are prominent among the bodies that promote export business.
