Find Oil and Gas expertise in Zambia

Zambia imports the majority of its oil and gas requirements. However, in 2007 traces of oil were discovered in three of the country’s provinces. Consequently new legislation was enacted in 2008 to facilitate the development of oil and gas production in Zambia. In 2009, foreign companies with Zambian partners were invited to tender for licences to explore 23 blocks in Eastern, North-Western and Western Provinces. The first licenses under the 2008 Petroleum Act were issued in 2011. Further to this, in December 2013, the Government of Zambia identified Lake Tanganyika in the country’s Northern Province as a potential site for future oil and gas explorations.

The Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development is the government agency tasked with enacting legislation for the mining sector in Zambia and granting mining and exploration licensed for large- and small-scale mining operators.
