There several publishing companies in Zambia producing newspapers, magazines and books, the majority of which are located in Lusaka. The largest educational publishers include the state-owned Zambia Educational Publishing House and private companies affiliated with large international publishing groups, such as Longman Zambia, Macmillan Publishers Zambia and Oxford University Press. Bookworld Publishers is a local publishing house which was established in 1996 and publishes in both English and Zambian. Publications primarily include grammar books, history and political autobiographies and adult and children’s fiction. The University of Zambia has its own Press (UNZA Press) and was founded in 1989, publishing academic materials, including journals and teaching materials. Another local publisher is Zambia Educational Publishing House (formerly known as the Kenneth Kaunda Foundation), owned by the government, it produces the works of Zambian authors and school textbooks.

The Booksellers and Publishers Association of Zambia is the trade body for the publishing sector.
