Transport Malta Responsible for the regulation of all modes of transport in the Maltese Islands, Transport Malta (TM) is actively caught in the dynamic implementation of a better and more e cient system that will complement the country’s highly successful economic drive. Transport Malta is also responsible for the building and investment in Roads and Ports infrastructure with a multimillion investment portfolio. It is directly involved in the promotion of maritime a airs, including the management and operation of the Maltese Register of Shipping and the operational activity within the Maltese inland waters and ports. Transport Malta is also responsible for the promotion and regulation of aviation a airs, and the regulation and licensing of vehicles and drivers. TM is charged with the ambitious mission to promote and develop the transport sector in Malta by means of proper regulation and through the promotion and development of related services, businesses and other interests both locally and internationally. Aviation and maritime a airs Transport Malta’s vision is to help develop Malta, with its unique geographical location, into a leading aviation and maritime hub in the Mediterranean. Already holding the largest maritime ag in Europe, there is every reason for TM to feel con dent in its ability to replicate that success in the aviation sector. It aims to become one of the leading jurisdictions for aircra registration and an attractive base for air-operating companies. e further development of the aviation cluster would make Malta more attractive as it supports the growth of a number of businesses. At the heart of this cluster, TM seeks to develop an aviation register that enjoys both the con dence of the operators and the respect of the industry.  Ports TM is also entrusted with keeping the Maltese ports e cient and competitive as the development of the yachting industry continues in earnest. Malta is today an established cruise-liner destination and a major transhipment depot where safety and security are gradually enhanced through capacity-building and a gradual upgrade of equipment and infrastructure. Information and Communication Technology www.mti.gov.mt James Piscopo Chairman and CEO, Transport Malta James Piscopo was appointed Chairman and CEO of Transport Malta in March 2013 and immediately embarked on important reforms, primarily related to Land and Public Transportation. He has overseen two years of consecutive growth in Malta’s Merchant Shipping Register, today the largest in Europe and sixth largest in the world, as well as overseeing the implementation of Malta’s most ambitious ever road infrastructure project, the Coast Road. Hon. Joe Mizzi Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Born at Kalkara in 1952, Joe Mizzi had an active and successful career in telecommunications and oil exploration/ seismic survey techniques before going into national politics in 1987, whereupon he immediately won a parliamentary seat. He has never looked back since, retaining his constituency seat in six consecutive general elections (1992, 1996, 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013). With the Labour Party back in power following the March 2013 General Elections, Joe Mizzi was appointed Minister for Transport and Infrastructure.
