There are several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society organisations working in The Bahamas’ education sector. The Bahamas Union of Teachers is the main representative body for teachers on the islands. Other civil society bodies and NGOs include The Bahamas Association of Mathematics Educators, which has over the years emphasised the importance of mathematics education in many disciplines; and The Bahamas Reef Environment Education Foundation (BREEF), which has worked closely with the Ministry of Education to find ways to educate adults and schools pupils on environmental issues.
