The most commonly diagnosed mental illness in Antigua and Barbuda is schizophrenia. Mental illnesses are mostly related to organic illnesses, however psychoactive substance misuse accounts for nine per cent of these diagnoses (2007). Neuropsychiatric disorders contributed an estimated 21.5 per cent of the global burden of disease in 2008.
