Metsimaholo Local Municipality
Metsimaholo, or “big water” in Sesotho, is a local municipality in the Fezile Dabi district, Free State province. Its three major towns are Sasolburg, Oranjeville and Deneysville. Sasolburg was founded to provide housing for those working in the petro-chemical industry and is home to one of the world’s two viable coal-derived oil refineries. Aside from this it is known for its wealth of oak trees and is the municipal seat for the district. Deneysville is a rural village known as “the Highveld’s inland sea” due to its proximity to the dam. It is a popular location for yachting and bird-watching.
