Mubende

Mubende, named for its chief town, is a district located in the Central Region of Uganda. In 2005 the district reduced in size, with part of it turning into the Mityana District. The Nakayima Shrine is a cultural site sitting atop Mubende Hill, a popular destination for visitors wishing to pay homage to the matriarch Nakayima of the Bachwezi.

Agriculture is the mainstay of the local economy, with a particular focus on food crops such as onions, cassava, maize, sweet potatoes, bananas and tomatoes as well as the cash crops tea and coffee.
