DurbanSince returning to the international sports arena, South Africa has proven its ability to host major international sports eventsv- many held for the first time on African soil. The City of Durban, as a host city, has played an integral part in showcasing South Africa’s reputation as a leading sports destination. With a proven track record of successfully hosting mega sports events on behalf of South Africa and Africa, the city is famously known as Africa’s premier sporting destination having invested R3,4 billion in sports infrastructure since 2009.

The City of Durban is best characterised by its warm, friendly and diverse people and the warm sub-tropical climate. All of these elements make Durban the warmest place to be.  Its idyllic all-year round weather, strategic location on the eastern seaboard of the Indian ocean with modern air, land and sea transport routes make it an ideal host for the 2022 CWG.

Durban’s vision is to build a caring and liveable City where all people live in harmony with another and with nature. For Durban, the CWG will provide a platform to build on this legacy.

In 2013, Durban was named the friendliest City by Anholt-Gfk Roper City Brand Index and the Coolest City by CNN in 2014. In 2015, the New York Times’ Travel Magazine placed Durban in 7th place as a must- visit destination in 2015 – confirming that Durban is a compelling destination whose unique modern and cultural attributes make it a melting pot for mega modern and cultural international activities.

Durban 2022 – Everyone Wins

Hosting the 2022 CWG will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for Durban and South Africa – one which the City will drive with absolute determination in partnership with all stakeholders. The measure of success, for Durban, goes beyond the exposure the city will gain out of hosting the games; however it is the sense of having fulfilled the games’ values of humanity, equality and destiny, which are very central to the South African Constitution. Durban is ready to host the 2022 CWG. In the spirit of the friendly games, Durban will ensure that everyone wins.
