Prime Minister

The prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda is appointed by the governor-general as the head of government of the country. The governor-general is appointed by Queen Elizabeth II on the advice of the prime minister. Furthermore, the multi-party system of the state is headed by the prime minister and 11 members of the Upper Senate of Antigua and Barbuda are appointed on his recommendation. The prime minister is the head of the lower house of the Antigua and Barbudan  House of Representatives. In order to be elected, the prime minister must obtain a majority of both the House or Representatives and the cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda in general elections held every five years.
