Government Ministries

Bangladesh has over 40 ministries which are headed by, in order of hierarchy, ministers, ministers of state and deputy ministers. Ministers are appointed by the president on the specific advice of the prime minister. Ministries tend to be sub-divided into departments. For example, there exists the Bangladesh Jute Research Institute within the Ministry of Agriculture. Examples of the key ministries within the country include the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence. The highest-ranking civil servant in each ministry takes the title of secretary.
