President

The President of Bangladesh is the head of state for the country and is elected by the members of parliament. One term of office is five years, with a maximum of two terms possible. The role of the president is non-executive and largely ceremonial, thus the constitution refers to the president acting in accordance with the advice of the prime minister. The Constitution requires anyone running for presidency to be at least 35 years old, qualified for election as a member of the Sangsad (Parliament) and never to have been impeached as president in the past. The President of Bangladesh resides at the Bangabhaban in Dhaka.
