Governor-General

The governor-general is the representative of the head of state of Papua New Guinea, Queen Elizabeth II. The governor-general is enabled to perform the functions, duties and responsibilities of the head of state. All actions undertaken by or in the name of the head of state must be made in accordance with the advice of the National Executive Council. The governor-general may not hold or engage in any office or position that does not meet the duties vested within the position. The governor–general may only be appointed for a second six-year term if voted to the position by a two-thirds absolute majority, but no person is eligible for a third term.
