Some of the largest firms operating in the Solomon Islands are foreign-owned. These are primarily based around the country’s banking, logging, mining and fishing industries. The large Australian international mining company Allied Gold invested $150 million in Gold Ridge mine where it took over operations and started to mine for gold in early 2011. The country’s logging industry is dominated primarily by Malaysian firms such as Golden Springs Logging. There is also a significant presence of South Korean logging firms. Australian multinational banks ANZ and Westpac operate in the country.
