There are various trade unions in Antigua and Barbuda: the Antigua Trades and Labour Union (ATLU), founded in 1939 is the country’s oldest trade union centre. It has emerged out of the Antigua Labour Party and counts around 7,000 active members. Other trade unions on the island state include the Antigua Workers’ Union (AWU) founded in 1967, the Antigua and Barbuda Public Service Association (ABPSA) and the Leeward Islands Airline Pilots Association, founded by pilots of the airline of the same name. From 1951 on, Unions could officially be registered in Antigua and Barbuda under the Trade Union Act.
