Essentials in Jamaica

A passport valid for six months is required by all foreign nationals who wish to visit Jamaica, though passports issued by the Palestinian Government are not recognised. Visas for stays of up to 90 days are not required for citizens of Australia, the USA, Canada and the UK and the rest of the European Union. Inoculations against hepatitis A and tetanus are required. Yellow fever certificates, for travellers over one year of age, are required when travelling from infected areas. Water in the main tourist areas is considered to be safe, though outside of these areas it is advisable to drink bottled water. Both public and private health services close to the main cities are of a reasonable standard, but treatment tends to be expensive and medical insurance is recommended for foreign travellers. HIV/Aids is highly prevalent, and the necessary precautions should be taken.
