Find Forestry expertise in Mauritius

Agriculture, forestry and fisheries contribute 5% to Mauritius’s GDP (2007). Although about 18% of the land surface area (approximately 37,000 hectares in relative terms) is used for forestation purposes, there is no primary forest region (2005). The more densely populated region is in the southwest. The Ministry of Agro Industry, Food Production and Security is tasked with ensuring the preservation of agricultural lands and the conservation of natural resources, including forests, fauna and flora. NGOs such as the Mauritius Wildlife Foundation and the Friends of the Environment are also actively involved in forestry and conservation works.
