Find Trade Union expertise in Seychelles

Trade unions in the Seychelles have a membership of approximately 15–20% of the total workforce. The Seychelles Federation of Workers’ Unions (SFWU) is the only major active union in the country and is the trade union centre of the country. It is affiliated with the International Trade Union Confederation. The 1993 Trade Union Industrial Act allows workers to form and join unions; however this excludes the police, military, prison, and fire-fighting personnel. The government has the right to review and approve labour contracts between individuals and large firms. Trade Unions include the independent federation, the Seychelles Workers Union (SWU). The only other substantial independent union, the Seychelles National Trade Union (SNTU), ceased operations in 2007.
