Offshore oil was discovered in several locations in 2009 and 2010, but commercial exploitation of these reserves is likely to be several years away. However, several multinationals already have exploration permits – Talisman, Lukoil, Anadarko, and European Hydrocarbon – and these are already starting to bring in revenue to the government. More exploration block permits are expected to be awarded soon.
