Prime Minister

The Prime Minister of Singapore is the head of the government. The president appoints as prime minister a member of Parliament who is likely to command the confidence of the majority of the members of Parliament. Parliamentary elections take place every five years. The president acts in accordance with the advice of the prime minister in appointing ministers from among the members of Parliament. The prime minister attends and presides at meetings of the Cabinet. The prime minister may charge any minister with responsibility for any department or subject.
