Research Institutes in South Africa
There are numerous higher education institutions and independent research institutes in South Africa involved in undertaking research across many disciplines. Some of the notable institutions include the Economic Policy Research Institute (EPRI), an NGO that carries out economic research and capacity-building for the public sector in order to help advance economic and socio-economic policies in South Africa. South Africa’s National Energy Research Institute (SANERI) is the public entity entrusted with the coordination and undertaking of public interest energy research, development and demonstration. The South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) is a non-governmental research institute focused on South Africa’s international relations. It has also worked significantly on issues relating to climate change, including the politics of climate change, trade and climate change, and the governance of Africa’s resources.
