Prime Minister

Under the 2010 constitution Tonga’s Prime Minister now has more powers than ever. The Prime Minister is the head of His Majesty’s Cabinet, and effectively the head of government. Tonga’s Monarch as head of state appoints the Prime Minister, an individual recommended by the Legislative Assembly through a parliamentary vote. The Prime Minister nominates ministers from amongst the members of the Legislative Assembly and can select up to four from outside it.
