Education NGOs and CSOs in Vanuatu

Given the importance placed on literacy and education development by the government of Vanuatu, there are a number of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society organisations (CSOs) working in Vanuatu’s education sector. The Vanuatu Teachers’ Union is the representative body for teachers in Vanuatu. The Vanuatu Literacy Education Programme (VANLEP), otherwise known as the Book Flood Project, works to provide reading and educational material to primary and secondary schools around Vanuatu, while the Family Literacy Program (FLP) promotes literacy and learning among adults in rural areas. VANLEP is funded by AusAID, UNICEF and NZAid, under its Education Assistance Programme for Vanuatu (NZEAP). Oxfam works with the Vanuatu Rural Development and Training Association to provide training and skills to Vanuatu youth who have had limited access and opportunity for formal primary and secondary education.
