In St Kitts and Nevis the law permits police, civil servants and members of other organisations to establish associations that serve as unions. The St Kitts and Nevis Trades and Labour Union was originally founded in 1932 as the St Kitts Workers’ League, it was renamed in 1940 and is now the country’s major workers’ labour organisation. It is associated with the labour party of St Kitts and Nevis and is also affiliated with the International Trade Union Confederation. Other large unions in the country are the Nevis Teacher’s Union, the St Kitts Teacher’s Union and the St Kitts Dock Workers’ Union.
