Universities and Colleges in Uganda
Tertiary education is provided by government universities, religious-affiliated universities, several secular private universities, a polytechnic, and teacher training and technical colleges. The most prominent and longest-established of the country’s public higher-education institutions is Makerere University, with a 64% share of the country’s undergraduates. Other public universities include Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Kyambogo University, Gulu Univeristy and Busitema University . The principal private universities include Busoga University, Islamic University in Uganda, Kampala International University, Uganda Christian University and Uganda Martyrs University. Approximately 3% of persons of relevant age were enrolled in higher education in 2005. The female – male ratio for gross enrolment in tertiary education is 0.40: 1 (2009). Literacy among people aged 15-24 is 87% (2010).
