Namwala

Namwala is a district in the Southern Province with the town of Namwala as its capital. It is a rural district with the major settlement areas including Namwala town, Kabulamwanda, Muchila, Maala, Mbeza and Chitongo, although about 90% of people reside in rural areas. Economic activities centre on cattle herding, fishing, hunting and subsistence farming. Cultural events such as the popular Shimunenga Ceremony draw visitors to the area year on year.
