Find Electricity and Power expertise in Belize

Electricity in Belize is distributed by Belize Electricity Limited, which was re-nationalised in 2011. According to Belize’s Public Utilities Commission (PUC), the country gets 66% of its power from imported fossil fuels, 26% from biomass, 5% from other imported electricity sources and 3% from hydroelectric sources (2009). Around 50% of the electricity consumed in Belize is imported from neighboring Mexico. Fossil fuels are imported by two companies: Esso Standard Oil S.A. Limited, the only private company in Belize authorized to import fuel, and the state-owned Belize Electricity Limited (BEL).
