Prime Minister

Grenada’s prime minister is appointed as the head of government by the governor-general.  As a parliamentary democracy Grenada has a bicameral legislature. The House of Representatives has around 15 members, who are elected by universal suffrage for a five year term. There are also 13 members of the Senate which are appointed for a five year term by the governor-general in consultation with the prime minister, ten members, and the leader of the opposition, three members. The prime minister appoints the cabinet. The Office of the Prime Minister has three ministries and six departments which all fall under the directorship of the prime minister. The Ministry of Information and National Security are the Ministries located within the Prime Minister’s Office.
