Jamaica is a net importer of goods and services. Net imports were 18% of GDP in 2007. The main export commodities are alumina, bauxite, sugar, rum, coffee, yams, beverages, chemicals, wearing apparel and mineral fuels. The main imports are food and other consumer goods, industrial supplies, fuel, parts and accessories of capital goods, construction materials machinery, and transport equipment. The average ad valorem tariff for imported goods is 7.5% (2008).
