Insurance is an important component of the New Zealand’s financial services sector. The country is served by a diverse and well developed insurance industry comprising approximately 160 registered entities. Around three-quarters of insurers provide non-life insurance services, with the remainder being life insurance providers. Reinsurance and captive insurance companies also operate in the country. Large international insurance companies such as Zurich and ACE Group can be found operating in New Zealand, as can indigenous companies such as New Zealand Insurance and AMI Insurance.
