Constitutional safeguards include freedom of speech, press, worship, movement and association. There are two English daily newspapers, The National and the Papua New Guinea Post-Courier. The commercial channel EMTV is the only broadcaster and coverage is limited primarily to Port Moresby and the provincial capitals. The state-run National Broadcasting Corporation operates a radio station, while NAU FM, a private commercial network, also broadcasts. The Papua New Guinea Media Council (PNGMC) helps to maintain professional standards.
