Prime Minister

The prime minister is nominated by the president. The prime minister’s key responsibility is coordinating the functioning of the cabinet in accordance with broad guidelines set by the president. He or she is also tasked with ensuring the implementation of the law and formulating the government programme in consultation with other members of the cabinet. The prime minister assigns duties to the ministers, ministers of state and other members of the cabinet and presides over cabinet meetings when the president is not in attendance. The prime minister has the additional power of appointing civil and military officers, with the exception of those appointed by the president.
