No oil has been found in Saint Lucia – all of its oil is imported, with a total of 2,692 barrels imported per day in 2009. In 2008, US based Hess Corporation started work on an oil refinery in Saint Lucia to complement the fuel storage and transshipment terminal it already operated there. However, the oil refinery was never completed and the storage terminal – which has capacity for ten million barrels – was sold to Houston-based Buckeye Partners in 2013. In July 2014 Buckeye made around 60 redundancies at the terminal.
