Freight, shipping and logistics services are available in St Kitts and Nevis via land, air and sea. The St Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA), a statutory body incorporated in 1993, is responsible for the operation of the Robert Llewllyn Bradshaw International Airport and the Basseterre Deep Water Cargo Port and Ferry Dockas well as the Port Zante Cruise Ship Terminal.

The Bassterre Cargo Port is home to liner services provided by Tropical Shipping, Bernuth, Seaboard Marine and Geest, and also provides transshipment services for onward shipping of goods to regional destinations such as Dominica, St Vincent and Trinidad.

The European Commission estimates that, in 2010, St Kitts and Nevis imported goods to the value of €0.3 billion, consisting principally of machinery, manufactured goods, food and fuels mainly from US, EU and Trinidad and Tobago. The EC estimates that in the same year the country’s exports of machinery, food, electronics, beverages and tobacco to US, Canada, the EU and other places was worth €0.1 billion.

In terms of transport infrastructure, St Kitts and Nevis has two airports, both of which have paved runways, 50km of railway and nearly 400km of roadway of which nearly half is paved. Over 152 merchant marine vessels are connected with St Kitts and Nevis which include bulk carriers, cargo ships, chemical tankers, combination ore/oil containers, liquefied gas containers, passenger and passenger/cargo vessels, petroleum tankers, refrigerated cargo, roll on/roll off vessels and specialised tankers; of these vessels 73 are foreign owned.

The cargo port at Basseterre is a key port for St Kitts and Nevis and offers pilotage services 24 hours a day. It accommodates vessel up to 900ft in length with draught of 27ft. The ro-ro (roll on/roll off) pier can take vessels up to 300ft and has a minimum depth of 19ft. Other facilities available at the port are container storage, reefer facilities, parking space for traffic containers and approximately 175,000 sq ft of warehousing in transit sheds. Transhipment services, in partnership with Miami based Bernuth Lines, are available in St Kitts and Nevis. It allows vessels to use the country as a regional drop-off point so that cargo can be more efficiently shipped to other countries in the area such as Guyana or Dominica. Its development was part of strategic financial development plans by SCASPA and was introduced in 2005. Basseterre Port is also used as a deep water port for berthing cruise ships in the high tourist season.

St Kitts and Nevis is home to many shipping agencies, shipping companies and freight consolidating and forwarding services. Air cargo services at the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport are provided by freight forwarders such as FedEx, DHL and UPS. Companies such as Hobson Enterprises Ltd and Woodsrite Enterprises offer road trucking services for transporting freight within St Kitts and Nevis. Leading consultancy firm PWC is present in St Kitts and Nevis.
