There is no mining industry in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Sand and salt are quarried. Several private quarries operate on the islands, mainly to obtain basalt rock and river stone for use as aggregates in the building industry. The Ministry of Communications and Works uses some of this stone for road and building construction and a tiny bit is exported. White sand used for building construction is imported from Guyana.
Sand is also mined from beaches.
Mining is governed by the Ministry of Transport, Works, Urban Development and Local Government.
Most quarrying is unregulated.
