Uganda is a net importer of goods and services. Its net imports accounted for 11% of GDP in 2005. The main exports are coffee, fish and fish products, tea, cotton, horticultural products and gold. The main import commodities are capital equipment, vehicles, petroleum, medical supplies and cereals. The average ad valorem tariff for imported goods is 12.6%. The Uganda Export Promotion Board develops and implements the country’s export promotion programmes. It is a past winner of the best trade promotion body in the developing country category, awarded at the World Conference of Trade Promotion Organizations.
