Find Media and Broadcasting expertise in Zambia
The constitution guarantees freedom of speech, but the government plays an important role in media. Two daily newspapers are state-owned – Times of Zambia and Zambia Daily Mail – and generally support the government. One – The Post – is independent and often critical of the government. Radio is the main source of information for most Zambians. The Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) provides public radio and TV services. Several private radio stations were launched after liberalisation of broadcasting in 2002; the first private television channel began broadcasting in 2004.
