Insurance companies take up to a fifth of the total financial sector assets and the largest non-banking financial sector companies (2006). Products on offer with insurance companies include, but are not limited to, life insurance policies, individual annuity contracts, fire and general insurance, motor insurance and third party property damage claims insurance. There are numerous companies in the sector, although only a few companies dominate. CLICO is the largest insurance company in the country and has more than 100,000 policyholders. The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago is the regulator for the insurance industry (since 2004).
